I Have Found It!!

Continuing my seemingly endless flights in and around California.

Blue Canyon-Nyack Emigrant Gap CA to Eureka CA KEKA.

I got out of town just in time. It snowed lightly over night and I had to wait for the runway to thaw and dry somewhat. Heading for the coast now.

I'm at 9K feet to get over the mountains and then I'll need to descend to sea level for landing.
Nice lake and earth fill dam down there.

Nice scenery over the mountains though.

Here we are. Even the mud flats can be scenic at times.

Turning onto final.

Legend has it that a few thousand years ago in Greece a naked man (it's OK, he'd been in the bath) ran through the streets yelling to all and sundry "Eureka! Eureka!" In other words "I have found it! I have found it!" The man (Archimedes) had discovered a method to determine whether gold had been diluted with baser material and thereby reduce it's value.

Today I managed to find Eureka California. Eureka!

Across the country part 1

I'm flying the Phenom 300 from Portland to Key West.  Here we're off from KPDX
and will climb to FL450 which is the limit for this aircraft.
We'll be well above the airliners though.
 Single pilot jet of course.
It's messy in Wichita as the gear comes down.
This will be our one fuel stop.  You can see the runway on the synthetic vision but not quite yet out the windscreen.
Ahh, there it is, right where it's supposed to be.

Moving North

Starting to definitely move north now. We'll see some now today.

Salinas to KBLU Blue Canyon--Nyack Emigrant Gap CA.

Ok, don't ask. Where the heck is Emigrant Gap CA? First off, you might want to read this article and learn about the Emigrant Gap itself and the community of 80 (count 'em 80) people.

Anyway, off we go. The airport was opened in 1941 so it's most likely a converted military field.

I don't know what is planted down there. I do know there are several crops that have blue flowers.

Evening, and nice shadows.

Yeah, snow. I'll head for the coast next flight.

Here we are.
Travels to be continued.

Not Always Photogenic

I've noticed days during past bike, but, and hiking trips that there are days that just aren't photogenic. They don't offer astonishing scenery, great views, wonderful landscapes. So it was yesterday.

Bakersfield to Salinas CA.

Out of KBFL for the short flight. I've come to greatly enjoy low & slow flights. More to see, about as much to do as in some of the "big iron" flights.

On the other hand, you aren't going to escape the lesser scenery quite as fast. Oh well.
Haze out there too.

This and next two, about as good as it got the entire flight.

On the ground at KSNS Salinas. The great part of the flight was the (rare) perfect landing I made. Totally smooth and professional. Don't get used to it.

Tillamook to Portland

Not  a lot of pics but here I'm climbing out of Tillamook, OR for a short flight to Portland.
I flew it at 5500' VFR.  That cleared the local mountains.
I suppose you could say I'm VFR on top but I could always see land beneath me.
I'm starting my descent into KVUO, Pearson in Portland, although actually it's on the Vancouver side of the Columbia.  I was busy with the landing and didn't take pictures...sorry.
